Four Stage Clearance
A clearance certificate must be issued by the independent Asbestos Assessor or independent Competent person before the area is made available for reoccupation.
The licensed asbestos assessor or competent person must not issue a clearance certificate unless satisfied that:
The asbestos removal area and the area immediately surrounding it are free from visible asbestos contamination; and
If the assessor or competent person undertook air monitoring as part of the clearance inspection, the monitoring shows that the respirable asbestos fibre level does not exceed trace level (i.e. does not exceed 0.01 f/ml); and
The asbestos removal area does not pose a risk to health and safety from exposure to asbestos.
The clearance certificate must be in writing, must contain the name, qualifications, and contact details of the licensed asbestos assessor or competent person issuing the certificate, and must state:
The address and location of the asbestos removal area and the date and time that the inspection occurred; and
That the assessor or competent person found no visible asbestos residue from asbestos removal work in the area, or in the vicinity of the area, where the work was carried out; and
If air monitoring was carried out by the assessor or competent person as part of the clearance inspection, that the respirable asbestos fibre level does not exceed 0.01 fibres/ml; and
That, as far as can be determined from the clearance inspection, the asbestos removal area does not pose a risk to health and safety from exposure to asbestos.
Work Safe ACOP provides further details regarding the clearance process.
Our clearance process follows the WorkSafe ACoP, and HSW (Asbestos) Regulations as a minimum. The Assessor may require additional information or action when deemed appropriate.
